Take Me Up

 Merry Christmas!! I arrive with more artsy goodness.












I had fun making the god rays - overall, I'm pleased with how this one turned out.

 I used "Excalibur" as a working title and ended up getting that damn song stuck in my head.....

Thanks, I'm glad you think so. He almost didn't make the cut. My original composition had him cropped out so that it was just his hand reaching out for the sword. And then my beta asked, "what if that's Uther?!" - black gloved hand and all..... I thought, "That'd sure be one way to interpret Merlin's expression! - Apprehensive!!" LOL!

Beautiful! Perhaps "Take Me Up" as a title? The other half of the inscription is "Cast me away", but this is definitely that moment where he takes up a part of his destiny.

Thanks a lot! Glad you mentioned the linework as I tried a different (see: 'proper') inking technique this time. LOL! I got lazy halfway though and almost gave up, but I am really happy at how it turned out.

The rays look great! =D I love how they follow the path of Arthur and Merlin's eyes and add intensity to that connection of their. Also love how you used a small detail like making Merlin's kerchief ragged tells a tale on its own about how he went to retrieve the sword.

For a title, I second Altocello's idea of "take me up", or of something along that line of thought and reference. It'd match really well, and would give a small bit of ambiguity over who 'me' refers to in this scenario. Excalibur, Merlin, Arthur, the king mantle, feelings, something else? ^__^

Thanks very much! Tattering up the kerchief was inspired by a promo pic I saw of Merlin wearing a blue/grey kerchief that was frayed all up to hell. I thought, "I need to beat the shit out of his kerchiefs more..." - And so I did. And you're right in that it tells a tale of it's own.

I agree with the title suggestion. There is definitely more than just a sword being handed over here. Funny thing is that it wasn't there in the original sketches. Only when I started cleaning up Merlin's face did this expression just come out. What I love is that I can't even put my finger on what it is: awe? apprehension? anxiety? yearning? Whatever it is, I have the original (twice as large) version of it as my desktop and his eyes keep haunting my soul!!!!!!

Arthur is bloody gorgeous, the background is fabulous yet again. Merlin seems to be a bit older, but it's just so nice and realistic, wow!
